During 2025, the Egyptian Prison Authority carried out death sentences by hanging against at least 15 individuals, including one woman, across 10 cases.
The Court of Cassation upheld death sentences against 31 individuals in 23 cases, adding them to death row, where they await execution at any moment.
Meanwhile, criminal courts at both first instance and appeal levels issued death sentences against 461 individuals in 320 cases, in addition to referring the case files of 405 defendants in 260 cases to the Grand Mufti of the Republic for a “religious” opinion on their execution.
The figures cited represent the minimum number researchers were able to document, based on information from families and what was reported in the media.
