Mohamed El-Derini was detained at his house on 22 March 2004 amidst a campagin that targeted a number of Egyptian Shi'a Muslims. El-Derini is the last to be released of the 11 detainees who were also incarcerated for varying periods without ever appearing before a proseuctor.

El-Derini was arrested at his house on 22 March 2004 as part of a larger campaign of arrests that targeted a number of Egyptian Shi'a Muslims. While all the other detainees were released at a later stage, El-Derini has been in custody for 15 months now without ever being charged or even referred to prosecution.
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights today renewed its call for the release of Mohamed Ramadan Hussein El-Dirini after a new court ruling was issued in his favor last week.
