The South Mansoura Criminal Court has sentenced Sami Abu Bakr Rizk to five years in prison after he was charged with assaulting the sanctity of the private life of a teacher, intentionally disturbing and harassing the victim, and managing a private internet account for the purpose of committing these crimes.

The ruling, issued in absentia on 2 December 2025 in Felony Case No. 1765/2025, South Mansoura General Felonies (registered under No. 9679/2025, Talkha Police Station Felonies), followed a complaint filed by a female teacher in Talkha. The victim, who was legally represented by defence counsel from the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), stated that she was harmed by the owner of an electronic account who sent her images and phrases containing sexual innuendos and persistently requested sexual favours. She further accused the defendant of attempting to bribe her with sums of money in exchange for such favours.

The case highlights a severe instance of institutional reluctance and complicity. Following the victim's verbal complaint to her direct manager regarding the harassment, and her initial suspicion that the perpetrator might be a colleague, the school administration failed to protect her. Instead, her manager colluded with other school officials to coerce her into resigning. Consequently, she was forced to leave her position without receiving her financial entitlements or a certificate of experience.

Investigations by the Internet Investigations Unit identified the perpetrator as Sami Abu Bakr Ali Rizk. It was revealed that the defendant is the parent of a student at the school where the victim worked. After his initial attempts to court the teacher were rejected, he resorted to threats and attempted extortion.

EIPR emphasises that the victim's treatment by her employer constitutes a blatant violation of labour rights and protections against workplace harassment. The administration’s decision to force a resignation rather than investigate the complaint is implausible and must not stand as a standard for educational institutions.
