Joint Statement: Solidarity with Water Utility Workers

Press Release

3 December 2025

The undersigned express their full solidarity with the demands of the workers and employees of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in "Cairo, Giza, Sharqia, Beni Suef, and Minya" governorates, where they held protest vigils. These demands are nothing more than the essential rights of the workers that the State itself has affirmed, including the implementation of the minimum wage, the disbursement of delayed bonuses/raises (allowances) since 2016, and the provision of fixed term contracts for temporary workers.

The signatories also express their grave concern regarding the difficult living conditions of the company's employees caused by the significant imbalance between the high cost of living on one hand and the erosion of the value of their wages on the other hand, which is only compounded by the withholding of their entitlements.

The situation has deteriorated to the point where the company refuses to implement enforceable judicial rulings obtained by some workers for the disbursement of their delayed allowances, even though this should have been automatic and should have never required litigation.

The signatories of this statement call upon the Ministry of Housing to immediately look into the demands of the company's workers. They also call upon the Ministry of Labour to examine the company's compliance with mandatory minimum wage requirements.
