The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) calls on the Ministry of Interior and the Public Prosecution to cease the judicial pursuit of online content creators by levelling vague, morally and socially biased charges such as “violating Egyptian family values” against them.
The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) condemns the continued targeting by security agencies and judicial authorities of the independent news website Mada Masr.
During the first half of 2025, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 269 defendants in 194 cases. Among them, 17 were issued final verdicts that could not be appealed. Additionally, 197 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 137 other cases.
During the month of June, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 34 defendants in 26 cases. Additionally, 20 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 17 other cases.
During the month of May, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 45 defendants in 38 cases. Among them, 6 were issued final verdicts that could not be appealed. Additionally, 53 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 37 other cases.
During the month of April, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 44 defendants in 29 cases. Among them, one was issued final verdicts that could not be appealed. Additionally, 46 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 25 other cases.
During the month of March, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 34 defendants in 24 cases. Additionally, 8 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 7 other cases.
During the month of February, Egyptian courts issued death sentences to 43 defendants in 29 cases. Among them, 4 were issued final verdicts that could not be appealed. Additionally, 34 defendants' papers were referred to the Grand Mufti in 24 other cases.
